PROTEIN AND MOLECULE MODELS

April 12, 2021

Did you know that a single protein measure only a few nanometers? We use three-dimensional models to train new students in the field of molecular biology. Also, we use computer-based molecular visualizers for teaching about the properties of biomolecules.

Recently, and with the collaborations of Melo´s lab at the Physics Department (Univ de Santiago), we have printed didactic material for teaching using 3D printing. Check it out our models!

MICROSCOPY CLASS BASED ON FOLDSCOPE

Aug 16, 2020

We still have only a very limited understanding of Communication Networks of Sparrows. Answering questions about this is essential for understanding the mechanistic role it plays on other scientific processes, and for developing tools to further explore this research avenue with more sensitive measurements and improved data collection.

VISUALIZATION OF MOLECULES

April 7, 2021

The workshop aims to introduce the molecular world to students of biology programs. Along the workshops we review a few concepts behind the DNA packing and protein folding, using PyMol–computer molecular visualizer–to create

COURSES

CELL BIOLOGY COURSE BCUM1001

April 12, 2021

The course belong to the Biotechnology undergraduate program (BCUM1001) at Universidad Mayor.  The Bio Cell course is taught on the fall semester starting on March. The course includes three units: Biomolecules and Evolution,  Mechanisms of the Cell, and Integrative Topics of Cell Biology. At the end of the course, the students will be familiarized with the cell's fundamental processes, including DNA repair and replication, transcription and protein expression, and finally, protein transit and export. Furthermore, students are trained in different microscopy techniques.
